As you MAY have noticed, I haven't posted for a while now....for a lot of reasons which I don't find necessary to mention. Anyway I decided to put Stoned Sun Vibrations on hiatus and concentrate my efforts to Downtuned Magazine ('n' Radio). Many of you probably know that Downtuned Mag is dedicated to the Greek heavy rock scene but since I've started Downtuned Radio too, I'm thinking of including posts about releases from all over the world. Apparently I'm going to keep a ratio but we'll see how it'll evolve.
From now on, you can find me on Downtuned Mag. And for any bands interested in reviewing/including them in radio's rotation etc., you can come in touch with me through the contact form over there. As I wrote above. I'll try to keep a ratio and at least in the beginning I'll try to "promote" mostly "smaller", more independent bands that deserve your attention.
So I want to thank each and everyone of you out there who supported, read, promoted and helped this blog. Also a big fat thanks to all the bands which helped SSV in their own way.
That's all for now folks! Thanks again! Maybe SSV will be back someday. Or maybe Downtuned will become better than SSV.... Who knows.
Be well and stay heavy!
Cheers,
Thanos
PS: Rock Trips Mixtapes will be back soon.... They'll be the only thing posted from now on. Perhaps some other personal comps too.
Spiritual Beggars are back! With new singer on the boat, the Spiritualised ship sails again.More influenced by Sabbath(after-Ozzy period) and Purple, their new album sounds quite different walking in more hard rock paths. In my personal opinion,"Return to Zero" is one step below their previous albums but although is a decent try to make some really goooood music.
Coming from Portugal this trio delivers us a 40-minute psychedelic breathless jam. If this record starts playing, your ears will blow off and your mind will take a 40minute journey to outer space.Sit back and enjoy the trip!
Here we have the thirf studio album by The Sword. It's a concept album centred on the story of a protagonist named Ereth from a planet called Acheron. Hard and heavy as we know them from their two previous album, adding a little bit hard rock too. It's a finely made album. The band doesn't afraid to try something new while they stay loyal to their roots.
From their myspace: "SERPENTINA SATELITE was formed by the end of 2003 in Lima, Peru. In late 2004 the band edited independently their first EP named LONG PLAY, featuring 5 epic songs which oscillate among calm, violence and ecstasy, in the spirit of Space and Krautrock. Constant appearances, underground festivals and freak-outs followed during the next years under the cloudy city of Lima. Now, their new record NOTHING TO SAY gets released on TRIP IN TIME (distributed by World in Sound). Again, it is an extended 5 track epic recording but this time, SERPENTINA SATELITE brings us a turbulent and more powerful rough sound"
"While you won’t find any Arabic sounds to Egypt’s four song demo, it’s laid back stoner jams convey the arid desert of the Sahara. Sabbath (duh) dutifully rears its head amongst the influences, but not to the point where you’re hearing duplicate riffs exported from the ‘70’s. There’s also a more straightforward Hawkwind and classic Deep Purple style to the demo, as if Geezer had replaced Lemmy and the whole gang went on a shrooms bender, meeting up with Richie Blackmore later on for a couple of pints. Obviously, this is good stuff, and worth seeking out if you’re looking for something to jumpstart your love of good ol’ heavy bluesy doom rock." ~ Stonerrock.com
This ep is a great release of psychedelic stoner. You'll never get sick of it,which is good cause the band changed their name(to Aspen) as they did with their musical direction too.
Great! At last a band that delivers a great deal of pure heaviness under the "guidance" of Sleep and Electric Wizard. This shit becomes better and better each time you listen to it.
Tia Carrera is coming from Texas. These guys just jamming, grooving, making some noise and tripping again and again. This band has to prove nothing.Heavy sound, fuzz, psych,"I would like to jam in Woodstock with Hendrix"-kind of play..Perfect!
It's not gonna change your lives but you're gonna love them!
... and when The Goat said 'Yeah, sure' then The Curf knew that the final destination was upcoming faster than ever before.... Chancellors Under Rough Fates... Heavy Riffs and Roaring Vocals... Death Pain and Misery... Demons Pressin' On... George, Kostas, Chris and the Spyr are 'The Curf', a band gently moving in the realm of heavy ritual rock...
Well here we have a greek psych/garage band. Their only studio album "Tales from the Prison" was recorded in 2001.The band played many live gigs and supported bands like Fuzzotnes, Dead Moon etc. The band split after the sudden death of their singer.
A Detroit based neo-psychedelic glam rock band which has recently self-recorded, produced, and mixed an 8 song LP. This 8 song LP “Sisters of Your Sunshine Vapor” incorporates spacey fuzz rock, cavernous reverb, haunting vocals, and a strong drum and bass backbone to lock it all together. The band draws on such influences as Spacemen 3, BRMC and T-Rex.
